It just seems so ridiculous that Sony hasn't come out with an IR-adapter for one of the world's best selling blu-ray players.
I was in the first order of IR2BT and it has been a great device, so I really hope Bruce can find a method to account for whatever happened.
Just so we're clear, if you power on the PS3 with the IR2BT and then go through the PS3's remote pairing/initialization it will work as expected? Do you have to get up an unpower/repower the IR2BT during this process?

 Re: Isolated Issue
alb0806 wrote:The problem that the IR2BT devices are encountering is definitely an isolated issue as there seems to be no issues with the PS3IR-PRO powering up the PS3 and remaining paired. I tested my unit last night and experienced no issues powering up or powering down the PS3, except with the PowerOff Macro (though this is due to the new method of turning off the system with FW2.4 in a game).
This is not encouraging for us that are looking to place an order today...

Just read on another forum that the IR4PS3 is still working as well after the F/W update...

This is not encouraging for us that have paid for IR2BT already!

We're looking at it. We'll delay today's pre-order opening until we have a fix.
Bruce...

Bruce...
Any ETA? Also, any idea if this will happen again? Lastly, why is your unit affected while others aren't? Do you use the same codes as others?

I found a plus!
The delay to get the XMB menu up has been shortened so you'll only need a 1.5-2 second command now.

I've tried powering up the PS3 with a different button (not PS) and still no success. It's something out of our control and I can't see how Bruce can do anything about it.

This does suck for those that paid and already have it. If I have to manually turn the PS3 on and off then why bother using the IR2BT. what the hell changed to unpair the things if you use it to power on? I wouldn't be surprised if sony did this on purpose with the hopes of putting out their own IR tool and wanted to test out potential ways to turn off competitors IR tools. Sony is always trying to make things propietary to them. Sony doesn't like sharing a damn thing with the open market. Probably want people to spend $20-$30 on the BT remote they have instead.

I think before we jump to conclusions and start complaining about the product that we bought we should be fair and give Bruce a chance to have a look at the issue and then come back with a corrective action plan. Hopefully this recent issue can be corrected without a product replacement.

No-one has had a go at Bruce, but why does IR2PS3 still work? We (well, I) was always led to believe that if the official Bluetooth remote chip works, then the IR2BT chip will also work -- I thought they were the same.
It's all down to Sony now -- I can't see how Bruce can do anything about it for those that have already bought an IR2BT, unless he offers a return and modify option when (if) he finds the cause.
You never know, Sony might accidently fix it in a future update...

Has anyone opened an IR2BT up?
The advantage of the IR4PS3 is that it uses the internals of a PS3 Remote and shouldn't be affected by F/W updates and I don't think Sony would do anything to jeapordize their own remotes. As much as I wanted to support Bruce I feel that I shall go the IR4PS3 option....

Well, I'm glad this came up before I ordered today. I can't see how this is fixable as the device can't support upgrades. I see no reason for Sony to fix the problem either. Even if the new units get a "fix" nothing will prevent this from happening down the road.
For now, I will get the Nyko remote (Grrr...Amazon increased the price to $15 today).
Shame this happened. I was REALLY looking forward to this...

 disappointment
This is disappointing, as I was hoping to order today. And it sounds like it wouldn't affect me anyway, since I leave the PS3 on 24/7 in order to donate time to Folding@home
